Objective of the Dept
To contribute and promote safe implication of technology by considering ethical standards that can help us to meet current Agricultural and other Socio-economic need and to impart the knowledge of genetics in exploring the secrets of genes and genomes.
Biotechnology relies on the use of cells or part of cells in the production of knowledge, products and services, and includes the use of gene technology and other methods in molecular biology to produce useful products for use in research, medicine, agriculture and industry.
Biotechnology is the application of biological organisms, systems, or processes by various industries to learning about the science of life and the improvement of the value of materials and organisms such as pharmaceuticals, crops, and livestock. It is a relatively new and fast-developing field that integrates knowledge from several traditional sciences: biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, and chemical engineering.
The department of Biotechnology ans Applied Genetics conducts both under graduate and postgraduate programmes. The main objective of the programme is to develop human resource to meet the growing demand for biotechnologists in the field of food, agriculture, medicine and environmental management.Qualified faculty members assigned with various theory and practical .They emphasis on 'learning' of the students.. The lectures lay emphasis on Knowledge content (topics in the curriculum), Utility value - application in real life , Latest developments etc..The Department is undertaking research projects of national importance in the field of biotechnology and attracted funds from various agencies. There are rapidly increasing opportunities for the application of biotechnology in the manufacture of medical and Veterinary products, chemical food, energy, pollution control and waste management.
