INDIAN LANGUAGES

  • The Department of Indian Languages is engaged in teaching Indian Languages such as Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit as a part of BCU Undergraduate curriculum. We also provide guidance for the students of Malayalam and Tamil on a need basis.
  • Department is committed to satisfy the literary quest in students and believes in moulding the students to understand, appreciate and enjoy language and literature to its core.
  • We believe that language is not only a medium of communication but also a powerful tool to revolutionize the thoughts of society and with this belief we strive to train students to contribute positively to the development of society.

OBJECTIVES

Objectives of Language Department as a part of curriculum is to:

Enable the students “To communicate information, ideas and opinions in a most appropriate way”.

Demonstrate comprehension of specific factual information and attitudes, expressed in spoken and written contexts.

Understand and appropriately use structures and vocabulary.

Provide access to varied sources of information.

FUTURE PLANS

In view of achieving above specified objectives Language department has planned below mentioned activities for the next academic year:

We are planning to present PPTs for all our GEF students on “Science and Management in the context of Bhagavad Gita and Vedic literature.”

Planning to arrange “Talk-shows” titled as “Vakyasadhutva” on different topics and Languages where students can express their views.

 

Activities of the Dept of Languages academic year: 2019

Club Activities: Dept. Languages conducted Club Activities on 22/8/2019. From “Kannada Koota”., “SahityaSangam”, “Samskrita Sangha”. Jointly conducted various competitions to students to showcase their talent through this Club.

Other Activities: a) The Sanskrit Day was celebrated by the Dept. of Sanskrit. On 13/9/2019.The chief Guest Dr..Jayathi Manohar,a famous scholar in Sanskrit, gave a PPT presentation on Indian Culture which has crossed 7 seas.

b) Dept. Of Hindi visited Krishna Chaitanya (aspecial school for disabled students) Trust, Kengeri on17/9/2019 on the accession of Hindi Diwas.

c) The dept. of Kannada celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava on   13/11/2019. Dr.BhairaMangalaRameGowda, graced the function as the chief guest. Delivered the lecture on “Language and Literature”.

Activities of the Dept of Languages academic year: 2018-19

Symposium / Seminars: As a part of Bhashotsava , The department of Languages organized a two days of “Indigenous Fest” a PPT presentation on 14/3/2019 and 15/3/2019. The Chief Dr.Jyothi Lakshmi , Professor MSRIT, was Jury for PPT presentation.

Club Activities: Dept. Languages Introduced Club Activities on 4/2/2019. In the name of dept. Kannada “ KannadaKoota”., Dept.of Hindi “SahityaSangam”, Dept of Sanskrit “Samskrita Sangha”. Students showcase their talent through this Club.

Other Activities: a) Hindi Diwas was celebrated on 4/10/2018. Dr.ChowdhariSenior,translator DRDO, Bengaluru grace the accession and taught how to translate from other languages to Hindi. Students re benefited by the accession.

b) a) The Sanskrit Day was celebrated by the Dept. of Sanskrit. On 10/10/2018. The chief guest Dr.C.ShivaKumaraswamy Rtd. Principal,Basaweswara College, Bengaluru. The students were made clear about the Importance of Champu Literature.

c) The dept. of Kannada celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava on 03/11/2018. Dr.Srikantham Nagendra Shastry graced the function as the chief guest. Delivered the lecture on “KannadaBhashe”

a) The Department of Kannada led the group of Students to Janapada Loka, Ramnagar Bengaluru on 28/2/2019.

b) Department of Languages organized “Steps of SrilaPrabhupada towards Morality” a essay competition with the collaboration of ISKCON on 11/3/2019.

d) Department of Languages organized “Vedic Mathematics” Class for B.Sc students for 20 hrs. with the collaboration of Mathematics on 11/3/2019.

e) Department of Hindi organized “Translation technic procedure and Practice on 27/4/2019. The chief Guest of the day was Dr.Ranjeet Kumar KRMD, LRDE,C.V.Raman Nagar, Bengaluru

Activities of the Dept of Languages academic year: 2017-18

Conferences: As a Member of SVAK, Faculty of  Department of Languages co- ordinated the 10th National Women’s  Science Congress at MSRIT Auditorium on 6th and 7th Nov 2017.

Symposium / Seminars: a)  0n 3/4/2017. The session started A literary symposium was conducted by the Dept. of Languages as a part of Bhashotsava 2017with Hindi Language, chief guest being Dr. B.H. Heremutt HOD, Dept of Hindi delivered the Lecture on Importance of Hindi Language.

The second Session was of Sanskrit Language. The chief guest was Dr. K.S. Ramaa gave a talk on “ Moral in Upanishads”.

The third session being the session of Kannada Language,  the Chief guest was Dr. Nanda HOD, PES College delivered the lecture on “ Kannada kalikeyaagatyate”.

b) A literary symposium was conducted by the Dept. of Hindi, as a part of Bhashotsava 2018. 0n 14/3/2018. Dr. Jayaprakash Kardam Director, Kendriya Rajabhasha, Dept. of Official languages Kendriyasadana , New Delhi , delivered the lecture. Students were motivated by his speech.

Student Achievements (Academic &Non academic):  The Dept of Sanskrit took the Students for “ Yuva Conference” related to Indian Culture , held at Dr.AmbedkrBhavan, Millers Road , on 28/8/2017.

Other Activities: a) The Department of Kannada led the group of Students to JanapadaLoka, Ramnagar, Bengaluru on 22/02/2017.

b) The Department of Sanskrit organized one day trip to Veda Vijnana Gurukula Channena Halli, Bengaluru as a part of curriculum on 7/03/2017.

c) The Sanskrit Day was celebrated by the Dept. of Sanskrit. On 8/8/2017. Dr. SreeSrivatsa, HOD, MES College, Bengaluru. She delivered the Lecture on “Importance of Literature”.

d) Hindi Diwas was celebrated on 14/9/2017. Dr.Usha Rani, HOD,Baldwin College from the Dept. of Hindi graced the occasion on the Topic: “Development of Hindi Language”.

e) The dept. of Kannada celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava on 4/11/2017. Sri Santosh Kumar Mehendale graced the function as the chief guest. Delivered the lecture on “Development of Kannada”

f) Department of Kannada organized one dayeducational trip to Adimanataka Kendra, Kolar Dist. As a part of outreach activity on 06/03/2018.

g) Department of Sanskrit led the group of students to Pyramid Valley International (a Meditation centre) Harohalli, Kanakapura Road, Bangalore. A Spiritual Discourse was conducted to increase the Memory power on 9/3/2018.

Activities of the Dept of Languages academic year- 2016-17

Student Achievements  (Academic &Non academic) – The Students of Hindi language,   participated quiz competition at DD Chandana on14/9/2016.

Other Activities – a) The Sanskrit Day was celebrated by the Dept. of Sanskrit. On 29/8/2016. Dr. S. Ranganath, Director, RV Institute Of Sanskrit Studies NMKRV college, Bengaluru.  The students were made clear about the Importance of Drama and Dramaturgy.

b) On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, the students were taken to Krishna Chaitanya Special residential school on 12/9/2016.

c) The dept. of Kannada celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava on 4/11/2016. Sripathi Manjana Bailu Director and theater artist  graced the function as the chief guest.

Activities of the Dept of Languages academic year: 2015-16

Symposium / Seminars – A literary symposium was conducted by the Dept. of Languages as a part of Bhashotsava 2016. 0n 19/2/2016. The session started with Kannada Language, chief guest being BhaktaralliKamaraj.

The second Session was of Hindi Language. The chief guest was Malatesh Mailar.

The third session being the session of Sanskrit Language. The Chief guest was Prof.K.I. Vasu. former VC of of several Universities.

Other Activities– a) The Dept. of Kannada organized “DasaSahityaVaibhava’ programme at the college auditorium on 29.7.2015. Dr Geethacharya and Prof.Aswattha Narayana delivered lectures and Smt. SukanyaVijaya Kumar sung light music songs of Dasarapadagalu.

b) The Sanskrit Day was celebrated on 25/8/2015. Dr.Y.S.Gayathri was the chief guest of the day. She explained “The importance of Sanskrit with other disciplines.’’

c) Hindi Diwas was celebrated on 14/9/2015. Sri Narayan, an officer from the Dept. of Collegiate Education graced the occasion.

d)   The dept. of Kannada celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava on 5/11/2015. Sri Bananduru Kempaiah graced the function as the chief guest.

Activities of the Dept of Languages Academic year: 2014-15

Workshops: The Dept. of Sanskrit conducted workshop on “Basic Sanskrit” on 4/8/2014.

Symposium / Seminars :The Department of Languages Organized “Bhashotsava 2014″ a literary symposium. The Dept.of Hindi stared with the first session. Ashok Billure  from ISRO, delivered the lecture.

The Second session stared with  Dept. of Kannada Dr. K Krishna Murthy addressed the gathering.

The third session was started with Dept. of Sanskrit Dr.Vanitha Ramaswamy Rtd. HOD, MES College delivered the Lecture on 4/4/2014.

Value Added Courses: Add on Course “Samvahana Kannada” (Spoken Kannada)  for 20 hrs classes for Non-Kannadiga students, teaching and non teaching staff.

Other Activities : a) The Dept. of Hindi conducted Hindi Diwas on 15/09/2014. The chief guest of the day was Dr. Shanakara Narayana Shastri, HOD, MES college for Managements, Bengaluru.

b) The dept. of Kannada celebrated Kannada Rajyotsava on 5/11/2014. The senior artist Smt. Yamuna Murthy was the chief guest of the day.
