About the Department

Established in 1996, The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at M. S. Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce – Autonomous provides high-quality education, hands-on laboratory training, and research exposure in core and applied chemical sciences. The department builds a strong foundation in Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical Chemistry while fostering scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

The department is recognized under the DBT Star College Scheme, which strengthens laboratory infrastructure, supports advanced practical training, and enhances research-oriented learning opportunities.

With a balanced blend of theory, practical learning, and interdisciplinary exposure, the department prepares students for higher education, research, and careers in chemical and allied industries. The Department has six dedicated laboratories for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for training, along with a specialised research laboratory.

UV-Visible Double Beam Spectrophotometer, Ultrasonicate, Rotary Evaporator, Double Distillation Unit, Muffle Furnace, Abbe’s Refractometer, Electroplating Unit, Karl Fischer Titrator, Orbital Shaker, Melting Point Apparatus, Cooling Centrifuge, Flame Photometer, Membrane Filtration Unit and Laminar Airflow.

Advanced Research Equipment

Gel Documentation System, Cooling Centrifuges, Electrophoresis Units and UV Transilluminators.
