18 September 2025 The Department of English organised a riveting spelling bee competition for students of all streams and years on 18th September, from 11:30AM to 1:30PM, at the MCA Gallery on 6th Floor. The competition aimed to offer students an exciting insight into the English language and its many unique spellings. After a quick welcome, Mrs. Pushpalatha B V addressed the gathering and encouraged them to do their best. There were three rounds of the competition, out of which the first round was prelims, where students answered 20 questions with varying difficulty. After this round, only 13 students were able to move on to the second round. In the second round, students were given different words to pronounce, and soon, only three students were selected for the final round. After three sets of questions, a winner of the competition was declared. The session concluded with a vote of thanks to the participants, the department, and the students. 29 August 2025 The Department of English, in association with IQAC, organized The Lit & Wit Quiz on 29th August 2025 at Kuvempu Hall. The event was envisioned as a true test of students’ knowledge in Grammar, Literature, and Idioms, and saw enthusiastic participation from across the college, including UG and PG departments. The program began with a warm welcome address by Mr. Abhijith N Arjunan, who extended greetings to the Principal, the Management, and other distinguished members in absentia. Following this, the Head of the Department, Mrs. Pushpalatha B V, addressed the gathering and invited students to actively participate in the quiz. Her encouraging words inspired the contestants to put forth their best efforts. The rounds were filled with energy, quick thinking, and a spirit of healthy competition. Each team displayed remarkable knowledge and teamwork, making the event both educational and entertaining. The quiz not only provided a platform for students to showcase their skills but also reinforced the joy of learning language and literature in a lively manner. 12th August 2025 The Department of English organized an enriching educational visit for the third and fifth semester Humanities students to the Museum of Arts and Photography on 12th August 2025 The visit aimed to offer students an immersive experience in the world of art, culture, and history, extending their learning beyond the classroom setting. The students explored a diverse range of art collections, including classical and contemporary artworks, photographs, sculptures, and cultural artifacts. This exposure not only broadened their understanding of artistic expression but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the cultural heritage preserved in the museum. The museum curators provided insightful commentary on the significance of each exhibit, allowing students to engage in thought-provoking discussions about the intersection of art, history, and society. This visit helped students connect their academic learning with real-world artistic experiences, encouraging them to think critically about the role of art and culture in shaping human history. 25 July 2025 A Student Development Programme (SP) was organized by the Department of English, MSRCASC in association with IQAC on the topic Communicative Skills on 25th July 2025 at Kuvempu Seminar Hall. The session was graced by the guest speaker Ms. Jayapradha N, Assistant Professor, Vijaya College, Jayanagar, Bengaluru. The programme commenced with the Ramaiah Anthem, followed by the welcome address, introduction of the guest by Ms Anushka, and the interactive lecture by the resource person. The session was coordinated by faculty members Mr. Pavansagar, Ms. Spoorthi Yadav, and Mr. Calvin George. The resource person, Ms. Jayapradha N, engaged the students in a highly interactive and insightful session. She started with an activity and gradually introduced the participants to key components of LSRW (Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing) skills. She elaborated on the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication, body language, and active listening. Her engaging approach and distribution of chocolates to active participants kept the audience lively and participative throughout the session. 14 March 2025 The Synergia Club, Department of English at MS Ramaiaha College of Arts, Science, and Commerce successfully organized the "Voices in Dispute" debate competition on 14th March 2025. The event took place at the Kuvempu Auditorium and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various disciplines. The debate followed a structured format, where each speaker was given two minutes to present their argument either for or against the given topic, with an additional minute for rebuttal. This allowed participants to engage in a dynamic exchange of ideas, fostering critical thinking and public speaking skills. The debate showcased a spirited exchange of perspectives, highlighting the students' ability to articulate their thoughts with confidence. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where the best speakers were recognized for their outstanding performances Overall, "Voices in Dispute" proved to be a stimulating and engaging intellectual exercise, reinforcing the importance of structured debate in academic growth. 31 January 2025 The Department of English’s SYNERGIA Club, under the IQAC initiative, successfully organized a workshop titled “Adapted for Impact; Lessons through Literature and Biopics” on January 31, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. in the Mother Teresa Auditorium, MSRCASC. The event featured Dr. Manjula Veerappa, Associate Professor at Vijaya College, Bengaluru, as the esteemed guest speaker. The workshop commenced with the arrival of guests, followed by an invocation song by Lakshmi Priya H. Then, Ms. Arhatha J. initiated the proceedings, while Ayan Mukerji introduced the dignitaries. Addresses were delivered by Dr. Pushpalatha B.V. (HOD, Department of English) and Prof. Jayarama B.S. (Vice-Principal, MSRCASC), after which Ms. Aishwarya Dharani welcomed the guest. Dr. Veerappa’s session was highly engaging, beginning with an ice-breaking activity that grouped students based on their favorite literary genres. She led discussions on the impact of literature and biopics, exploring topics such as the significance of literature, its relevance in modern society, and how narratives shape cultural identity, social justice movements, and personal resilience. The discussion extended to biopics and literary adaptations, highlighting the influence of jockographies (sports biographies) and other impactful narratives. 18th January 2025 The Department of English, in collaboration with the NCC & NSS Wing, successfully organized an “Awareness Program on Drug Abuse and Cyber Crimes” on 19th January 2025 at the APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium. The event aimed to educate students and faculty on the dangers of drug abuse and the increasing risks of Cyber Crimes. The program was graced by the presence of distinguished guests Mr. Girish, Police Inspector, Sadashivanagar Police Station, Ms. Manisha Bhatt, Founder & Director, Aarohan Foundation, Mr. Vinay, Director, Aarohan Foundation. The event was hosted by Prof. Aarthy Sajith, who ensured the smooth flow of the program. The program commenced with a welcome speech by Prof. B.S. Jayaram, who highlighted the importance of addressing drug abuse and Cyber Crimes in today's society. Mr. Girish shared valuable insights on the increasing cases of Cyber Crimes and drug-related offenses, emphasizing the role of law enforcement in tackling these issues.Achievements
