Drama 01: Tara and Family
On the morning of May 4th, 2023, the Rangbhoomi hosted an event to introduce a new English drama and Kannada drama to the audience. The theatre was filled with enthusiastic theatre-goers, eager to witness the first performance of this new production.
The program began with a Ramaiah anthem, as it's customary, and was followed by a God's grace song sung by a PG student from Rabindranath Tagore's written poetry. The program began with an opening speech from the host, who welcomed the audience and introduced the cast and crew. She spoke about the weeks of hard work that went into bringing this play to life and thanked everyone who had helped make it possible.
The English department produced the drama Tara and her family, a drama written by Raj Menon and directed by Jayshree.
The lights dimmed, and the curtains opened to reveal a beautifully crafted stage set. The play began with a captivating dance delivered by the lead actor, setting the scene and introducing the main character Tara.
The actors delivered their lines with impeccable timing, each character displaying their unique personality and struggles. The audience was drawn into the story, laughing at the humorous moments and feeling empathetic towards the characters' struggles.
The play was not without its share of laughing moments, with intense scenes of conflict and emotion that left the audience on the edge of their seats. The actors handled these scenes with skill and finesse, drawing the audience deeper into the story. The play ended with a deeper saying " A stitch in time saves nine" Meaning if you sort out a problem immediately it may save a lot of extra work later
Drama 02: Sanamana Sukha
The audience was filled with eager and enthusiastic spectators who had gathered to watch the much-anticipated Kannada drama, Sanmaan Sukha, directed by Prajwal N and coordinated by Shobha Ma'am.
The play's main protagonist is Vishwanath Murthy, played by a talented actor, who is a writer and receives recognition for one of his articles that is published in a local newspaper. His article wins an award, and he is invited to receive the felicitation. However, things take a turn when they realise that felicitation is nothing but a scam, and they have to pay a substantial amount to receive it.
As the play unfolds, the audience is taken on a journey filled with humour and social commentary as they watch Vishwanath and his wife navigate through the maze of corrupt politicians and fraudulent award ceremonies. The play highlights the importance of upholding one's values and standing up against corruption in society.
The actors' performances were excellent, and they brought the characters to life, evoking emotions and laughter from the audience. The set design and lighting added to the overall experience, transporting the audience to the various locations depicted in the play. In conclusion, Sanmaan Sukha was a well-directed and brilliantly performed play that delivered a powerful message while keeping the audience engaged and entertained. The play is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys drama and social commentary. As the play came to a close, the audience erupted into a standing ovation, showing their appreciation for the hard work put in by the cast and crew. The director came on stage once again to thank everyone for their support and dedication, and to announce future showings of the play.
Overall, the introduction of this new English drama and Kannada was a resounding success, leaving the audience eagerly anticipating future performances. The play showcased the talent and skill of the cast and crew and proved to be a memorable and entertaining show for all who attended.
