Field Visit to Little Sisters of the Poor

Date: 8th September 2025

The field visit was conducted on 8 September 2025 for III and V semester Psychology students to Little Sisters of the Poor–Home for the Aged in Richmond Town, aimed at helping them apply classroom learning to real-life settings. The field visit was conducted under the Psychology club MINDSCAPE. The field visit was organised by Ms. Dionne Bose, a Psychology faculty member. The visit began with an introduction to the organisation’s history by a nun, followed by interactions with the elderly residents, where students learned about their life circumstances, illnesses, experiences of abandonment, and psychological needs. The field visit helped students understand ageing from a Developmental Psychology perspective, observe emotional and social challenges such as loneliness and dependency, and develop empathy and sensitivity toward the elderly. It also enabled them to connect theoretical concepts to practical experiences and gain awareness of potential career paths and service opportunities in geriatric care.


RAMAIAH STUDENTS WITNESS JUSTICE IN ACTION AT KARNATAKA HIGH COURT

In a transformative academic initiative, the Department of Humanities at M.S. Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce organized an educational field visit to the High Court of Karnataka, offering BA Political Science students unprecedented access to India's judicial machinery in action. The all-day excursion allowed students across three academic years to observe live court proceedings from gallery seats in multiple courtrooms, witnessing the intricate dance of legal arguments, judicial deliberations, and case disposals firsthand. The immersive experience brought constitutional law textbooks to life as students watched judges, advocates, and litigants navigate complex legal terrain. Beyond the courtrooms, participants explored the High Court's Museum and Library, delving into archival legal resources and Karnataka's rich judicial heritage. The visit fulfilled four key academic objectives: connecting theoretical constitutional studies with practical application, demystifying procedural law through direct observation, fostering independent legal research capabilities, and inspiring potential careers in law, governance, and public policy. Faculty coordinators noted the visit's success in deepening students' critical understanding of judicial processes and institutional functioning. "Witnessing justice being administered in real-time profoundly impacts how students engage with political and legal discourse, " remarked department officials. The initiative underscores Ramaiah College's commitment to experiential learning, ensuring political science education transcends classroom boundaries to encompass the living institutions that shape democratic governance.


Industrial Visit to Times of India

Date: 18 November 2025

The Department of Journalism organized an industrial visit to The Times of India’s largest printing press at Bommasandra, Bengaluru, on 18 November 2025. A total of 23 students from II and III Year Journalism participated, accompanied by Ms. Arathy and Mr. Sarath B. Students observed the entire newspaper production workflow, including page design, pre-press, plate-making, high-volume printing and distribution. The technical team explained colour layout decisions, printing technology and quality checks. The visit helped students connect classroom concepts with real newsroom production, giving them a clearer understanding of design, technology and large-scale media operations.

Field Visit to Nightingale’s Centre for Aging and Alzheimer’s

Date: 14 November 2024

The Department of Humanities (Psychology) organized a one-day field visit to Nightingale’s Centre for Aging and Alzheimer’s on 14 November 2024 for the 5th Semester B.A. Psychology students. The visit aimed to provide experiential learning on the psychological, emotional, and social challenges faced by individuals with Alzheimer’s and age-related cognitive decline, while helping students understand the role of professional caregiving in enhancing quality of life. A significant part of the visit involved interacting with the residents. Students listened to their stories, observed their daily routines, and reflected on the emotional and social aspects of aging. This interaction fostered empathy, sensitivity, and ethical awareness—key qualities for aspiring psychology professionals. Through conversations with caregivers, students also learned about the challenges and responsibilities involved in dementia care, as well as the psychological principles applied in managing behavioural and cognitive changes.


FIELD VISIT TO VIDHANA SOUDHA

Date: 17 March 2025

The Department of Humanities (Political Science) organized a field visit to Vidhana Soudha on 17th March 2025 for BA Political Science students. Coordinated by Mr. Prashanth S P, the visit offered students a unique opportunity to witness the Karnataka Legislative Assembly in session during the Budget discussions. The program aimed to deepen their understanding of legislative procedures, financial governance, and the role of elected representatives in policy-making and to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to legislative processes. Students observed live debates and deliberations, gaining valuable insights into the workings of the state legislature. The visit not only reinforced classroom learning but also encouraged critical thinking about public administration and governance. It was a highly engaging and inspiring experience that motivated many students to consider careers in law, politics, and civil services.


PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS EXPLORE REHABILITATION AND ANIMALASSISTED THERAPY IN FIELD VISIT

The Department of Humanities–Psychology organised a field visit at 9:30 a.m., where students interacted with women residents living with mental health disorders or physical disabilities. The facility provides care and rehabilitation for many women who have been abandoned by their families and left without support. During the visit, students engaged in conversations with the residents, gaining valuable insights into their personal experiences and challenges of living with mental illness. The visit was coordinated under the guidance of Ms. Dionne Bose, faculty from the Department of Humanities, who accompanied the students throughout and facilitated meaningful interactions. A key highlight was the introduction to Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT), a unique approach where trained animals are used to enhance emotional, social, and cognitive well-being. The therapy was presented as a vital practice that fosters connection, aids healing, and improves the overall quality of life for residents. The exposure left students with a deeper understanding of alternative therapies and the significance of compassionate rehabilitation.


Field Visit to Missionaries of Charity Home for the Sick and Dying Destitute

Date: 19 April 2025

A field visit was organised by Ms. Dionne Bose, a Psychology faculty member from the Department of Humanities, for IV and VI semester Psychology students to the Missionaries of Charity Home for the Sick and Dying Destitute in Yelahanka. The field visit was conducted under the Psychology club MINDSCAPE. During the visit, students learned about the women residing in the facility, many of whom suffer from mental illnesses or physical disabilities and have been abandoned by their families. Students interacted with the residents to understand their conditions and observed the use of Animal-Assisted Therapy as part of the organization’s intervention methods. The visit aimed to help students apply theoretical psychological concepts in real-life settings, understand the roles of mental health professionals, and develop essential observational, communication, and ethical skills. Overall, the experience enhanced students’ practical understanding of psychological practice, improved their interpersonal skills, provided clarity about career paths, and strengthened their awareness of ethical responsibilities in professional settings.
