Title: Distinguished talk on Hereditary Diseases, causes and awareness
Department of Biotechnology and Genetic had arranged an extension activity for students of B.Sc., a reliable talk on Hereditary diseases, causes and awareness at Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA). The talk was very informative and gave the opportunity to understand the various genetic diseases and its cure, at the initial stage of infants. The program was organised on Friday, 27 October from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm.
The Morning talk, was presented by Dr. Akash Navilebasappa on the topic “Inborn errors of Metabolism”, where sir described about the “inborn errors of metabolism” causing genetic clinical conditions, it’s prevention measures, diagnosis and it’s cure. This talk helped the students to gain more information in the field of genes involved in hereditary diseases and also remedies which can be treated in the initial stages of new born. Many kits are available for identification of the gene defects in infants and are curable.
Afternoon session. after lunch which included a documentary screening of various hereditary diseases and how they were cured with the help of advancement in science with methods like gene therapy. This video was very interesting and the documentary showed various people who were able to cure their medical conditions with the help of gene therapy. This was followed by documentary on Sir C.V. Raman Biography. After the second session, refreshments were provided to all teachers and students. The programme wrapped around 4:00 pm with distribution of Certificates.
