Institutional Visit to IIHR, Bengaluru
Date: 25 July 2024
Students of the first and second year M.Sc. Microbiology visited the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Hessarghatta, Bengaluru, as part of their academic exposure program. During the visit, students gained valuable insights into ongoing scientific advancements and innovative research carried out at the institute.
The interactive sessions helped them understand the scope of research in the horticulture sector and motivated them to explore related career opportunities. At the Department of Biotechnology, students received hands-on exposure to plant tissue culture techniques. They observed key steps such as media preparation, callus induction, and the development of tissue-cultured plants. Scientists at IIHR explained various stages of culture maintenance and shared real-time applications of tissue culture in crop improvement. Students also visited the Department of Plant Pathology, where they learned about disease diagnostics and management strategies for horticultural crops. A brief session on mushroom cultivation introduced them to commercial and scientific aspects of fungal farming.
Institutional Visit to Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru – Open Day 2025

The Department of Microbiology, MSRCASC, organized a visit to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Open Day 2025 on 1st March 2025 for first and fourth-year B.Sc. students. A total of 82 students participated, accompanied by coordinators Dr. Aravindganth R and Dr. Swetha P, to gain exposure to advanced research and innovations in biotechnology, microbiology, chemistry, and genetics. Students explored research labs, interactive exhibits, and experiment stalls, gaining insights into bacterial diseases, gut microbiota, and advancements in disease diagnostics. They observed live tardigrade specimens and learned about their unique resilience.
In the food microbiology section, students saw demonstrations on food preservation, microbial fermentation, and detection of adulterants, enhancing their practical understanding. The biology exhibits showcased various vertebrates, invertebrates, and marine life, helping students understand biodiversity and taxonomy. Hands-on activities like crossword puzzles and sample loading in gel electrophoresis added an interactive learning dimension. Chemical demonstrations using helium, dry ice, and live reactions, along with spectroscopy and material characterization techniques, provided exposure to modern experimental chemistry.
Industrial Visit to Goa
Date: 9th December – 13th December 2024
The Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology organized an industrial visit to Goa for II Year M.Sc. students from 9th to 13th December 2024, with a total of 78 participants. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, providing students with exposure to real-world industry practices.
During the visit, students explored ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra, dairy industries, and oceanography research facilities, gaining insights into advanced technologies, research methodologies, and production processes. They learned about industry workflows, operational challenges, and potential career opportunities, while interacting with professionals and experts in their fields.
The industrial visit offered hands-on experiences, practical demonstrations, and exposure to cutting-edge tools and equipment, enhancing students’ academic understanding and inspiring future career aspirations.
The trip was successfully organized and guided by faculty members Dr. Sowbhagya A, Dr. Muktha H, Dr. R. Arvindganth, and Dr. Tejaswini H.K., and students returned on 27th December 2024, enriched with knowledge and motivated for their future endeavors.
Institutional Visit to GKVK, Bengaluru
Date: 30 July 2024
Students of first and second year M.Sc. Microbiology visited GKVK, Bengaluru, as part of their institutional exposure program. They explored the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, learning about different soil types and laboratory instruments like the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. The Department of Entomology showcased insect life cycles and their agricultural importance, while the Department of Sericulture highlighted mulberry cultivation, silk worm life cycles, and various types of silk. Students also visited the Department of Microbiology, biofertilizer unit, and Department of Mycology, gaining practical knowledge on research, bioinoculants, azolla cultivation, and mushroom production. The visit concluded at the GKVK museum, offering a holistic view of the institute’s research and educational activities.
